Why Quality Glassware Matters in Every Lab
Every lab uses glassware, but how often do we stop to think about what kind of glassware we’re using?
Not all laboratory glassware is created equal. The quality of the glass matters more than you might think – especially when it comes to chemical resistance, temperature tolerance, and long-term durability. That’s why at Interlab, we’re committed to supplying premium-quality glassware that meets the demanding needs of scientific environments.
What You Need to Know About Laboratory Glass
There are two main types of glass commonly used in laboratory settings: Soda-Lime Glass and Borosilicate Glass.
- Soda-Lime Glass: While cost-effective, it’s less chemically resistant than borosilicate glass. It’s typically suited to dry powder storage or for general sample containers. With only moderate resistance to water (hydrolytic resistance), it’s best used where chemical exposure is limited.
- Borosilicate Glass (Expansion and Neutral types):
- Expansion borosilicate glass offers high resistance to water, acids, salt solutions, halogens, and organic solvents. Only a few substances—like hydrofluoric acid, hot concentrated phosphoric acid, or strong alkaline solutions—can significantly corrode it.
- Neutral borosilicate glass has excellent chemical resistance across a full pH range, making it ideal for storing or packaging acidic, neutral, and alkaline substances, including injectable solutions.
Interlab’s Borosilicate Glass: Built for Precision and Durability
Interlab is proud to stock a wide selection of stress-free borosilicate glassware from Borosil, manufactured using Borosilicate Glass 3.3. This low-expansion, specialty glass is ideal for laboratory use thanks to several key properties:
- Outstanding resistance to water, neutral and acidic solutions, concentrated acids, halogens, and organic solvents
- Low alkalinity, which reduces leaching risk
- Excellent chemical durability
- High resistance to thermal shock and mechanical wear
This means you can rely on Borosil glassware to stand up to the rigours of daily lab use without compromising accuracy or safety.
